The school opened in 1979 as the second high school in the FBISD. During the 1980s, it was known for its high school football
players. Three players, Thurman Thomas, O.J. Brigance, and Allen
Aldridge, later went professional in the National Football League.
One of the streets on the WHS campus was named in memory of former principal Edgar Glover, Jr. Glover served as principal
between November 1982 until his death in April 1993.An elementary school was named in Edgar Glover Jr's honor in 1995.
Back in the 1980s, their football program produced several NFL players, from Thurman
Thomas (1984 graduate), O.J. Brigance (1987 graduate), and Allen Aldridge
(1990 graduate). The breakdown: Thomas played pro with the Buffalo Bills. Brigance with the Miami Dolphins,
and Aldridge, a Denver Broncos lineman, later finishing his pro career with the Detroit
Lions. Before retiring, Aldridge was selected in the expansion draft which established the Houston

Rapper/Geto Boys member Scarface attended WHS briefly in late 1986
- early 1987.
T.J. Ford - NBA Basketball Player for the Toronto Raptors. Class
